TAIWAN INAUGURATES THE FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT

TAIWAN: Taiwan Inaugurates first female president

Taiwan on Friday inaugurated as its first female President Tsai Ing-wen, a candidate from the pro-Independence Democratic Progressive Party, ushering in what has been called in China a new “era of uncertainty”.
Ms Tsai took the oath of office at the presidential palace in Taipei after winning a landslide victory in January on a wave of anti-China sentiment as the island faces economic headwinds.

Beijing-sceptic Tsai raised her right arm as she read the oath in front of Taiwan's national flag and a portrait of Sun Yat-sen, who founded the Republic of China before its government fled to Taiwan as the Communists seized power in 1949.
China claims Taiwan and says it will one day be reunited with the mainland – by force if necessary.  It carried out military exercises on its southern coast, across the strait from Taiwan, earlier this month.

Beijing has warned that delicate relations between the sides will suffer unless Ms Tsai explicitly endorses China’s stance that the island and the mainland are part of a single Chinese nation.
Ms Tsai has avoided doing so, but has promised to maintain the “status quo” between the two sides. Following her inauguration she said Taiwan would help maintain peace and stability with China.
"The two governing parties across the strait must set aside the baggage of history, and engage in positive dialogue, for the benefit of the people on both sides," she said outside the presidential office in Taipei after being sworn in.

The inauguration was largely snubbed in Chinese
media, but a commentary in the nationalist Global
Times on Friday said it marked “a new era for a
cross-Straits region that is characterized by
uncertainty.”
“Certain people are still holding on to the fantasy that ‘soft independence’ might be workable,” said the paper, which has close links to the Communist Party.
“Perhaps a new round of contention is inevitable to completely drive the topic of Taiwan independence away while making the one-China principle the one and only starting point to maintain the status quo.”
J Michael Cole, a Taiwan expert from the University of Nottingham’s China policy institute, said that Ms Tsai and the Taiwanese people “have no desire for a hostile relationship with China, nor do they deny its existence.”
He said any friction between the two sides would result from Beijing putting pressure on Taiwan to comply with its wishes.
“Whatever uncertainty ensues as a result of her elections will be caused not by Taipei, but by Beijing,” the Taipei-based academic told The Telegraph.
“The ball is therefore in its camp. The Taiwanese people have spoken and it has spoken loudly. It's up to Beijing to accept, and adapt to reality.”

EGYPTAIR FLIGHT FROM PARIS TO CAIRO DISAPPEARS FROM RADAR

EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo disappears from radar

A search and rescue operation was under way Thursday after an EgyptAir flight with 69 people on board vanished from radar en route from Paris to Cairo, the airline said A tweet on the airline’s official account said flight MS804 left Paris at 11:09 pm local time (2109 GMT), “heading to Cairo (and) has disappeared from radar”. Further tweets in Arabic said contact was lost at 2:45 am Cairo time (0045 GMT), when the plane was just inside Egyptian airspace and at an altitude of 37,000 feet (11,000 metres). There were 59 passengers and 10 crew aboard, according to the airline. “EGYPTAIR has contacted the concerned authorities and bodies and inspection is underway through the rescue teams,” another tweet in English said. The flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Cairo normally takes just over four hours and the plane was due to arrive at 3:05 am local time. The Flightradar24 website said MS804 is an Airbus A320-232, and was delivered to the airline in 2003. EgyptAir hit the headlines in March when a flight from Alexandria to Cairo was hijacked and forced to divert to Cyprus, where the “unstable” hijacker demanded to see his ex-wife. In October, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for bombing a Russian airliner carrying holidaymakers from the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh, killing all 224 people on board. The disappearance of the jet on Thursday comes more than two years after the start of one of the most enduring mysteries in aviation history. Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished on March 8, 2014 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew onboard, mostly Chinese and Malaysians. Authorities believe the Boeing 777 detoured to the remote southern Indian Ocean and then plunged into the water. The costly, painstaking search for a crash site has yet to yield results, but five pieces of debris have been identified as either definitely or probably from the jet, all found thousands of kilometres (miles) from the search zone, likely swept there by ocean currents. Theories to explain the disappearance include a possible mechanical or structural failure, a hijacking or terror plot, or rogue pilot action.

UNBELIEVABLE: 101 Year Old Woman Gives Birth…See How It Happened

In Napoli, Italy, Anatolia Vertadella, a 101-year-old woman, has given birth to a nine-pound baby, named Francesco, after a controversial ovary transplant widely criticized by medical professionals because of her advanced age.
The illegal and controversial surgical operation was done in a private clinic in Turkey, where European laws on ovary transplants do not apply.
According to the centennial mother who does not wish to disclose the name of the clinic where the operation was undertaken,

“I am very grateful to all the team of doctors who decided to go on with the operation,” she admitted in tears. “I am so grateful to have given birth to my 17th child. This is a true blessing and a testament to the power of the creator,” she told local reporters.
“For so long, I have felt useless to God, I could not procreate since I turned 48 years old when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. For a long time I believed God was punishing me for only bearing 16 children, but in his godly generosity, he has granted me with fertility once again,” acknowledges the century-old fervent Catholic.

Although he admits the procedure is highly controversial, Dr. Alexandro Popolicchi believes the ultimate decision was up to his patient to make.
“Who am I to judge if it is the proper thing to do? She has given birth to a beautiful baby and this miraculous birth is definitely a gift from God!” he told reporters.
“The operation was completely legal in Turkey and undertaken by a handful of expert surgeons. The lady is in great health for her age and I predict she has still a many good years in front of her to share with her child. So many children are born in this world unwanted or by accident. Is it not a beautiful thing to know this child comes to life in a loving home?” he asked reporters.

Although Miss Vertadella’s husband has passed away since 1998, the century-old widow has managed to find a sperm donor to make the birth possible. “I met Francesco’s father on the internet while trying to find a father for my child. This 26-year-old man is a Catholic and that is all that is important to me.
“I wanted my child to be born in a union sanctified by the Catholic Church. I know we are not married and that he will not play a part in Francesco’s life, but I have written to the pope to ask his absolution. I have also named my child after the pope in his honor and so I believe he should find a place in his heart to forgive me in this particular situation. I still love my deceased husband and desire to stay a widow until I leave this earth, but I needed the seed of this young fervent Catholic to fulfill God’s will,” she explained

Nigerians In London Protest Fulani Herdsmen Killings In Enugu State ________________________________________

PHOTONEWS: Nigerians In London Protest Fulani Herdsmen Killings In Enugu State The protest came two weeks after herdsmen attacked an Enugu State community, killing at least 48 people. According to Chidi Ughonu, the coordinator of the London Protest Against Fulani Herdsmen, the group had planned protests in the United States, Canada, and cities across Europe. The protesters numbering in the hundreds carried Nigerian flags and placards with slogans reading “Buhari – Stop the Massacre” and “Stop Bloodthirsty Fulani Herdsmen Now.” It was gathered that several of the protesters were members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a Biafran separatist group. However, several members of IB lined up behind the Nigerian flag to protest the Fulani herdsmen killing apparently to forge a common front with other Nigerians who might be suspicious of their agenda. The increase in violence committed by the herdsmen has sparked outrage among Nigerians across the world, with protesters calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to take action against the attackers. In response to the public outcry, the president has announced that he ordered all Nigerian security agencies to “deal decisively” with the attackers.
